“how can the descendants of people who experienced a genocide turn around and do a genocide themselves?”
Well, because people don’t generally take actions motivated by sympathy or even a consistent moral commitment, for one. But more to the point, when a nation of people participates in a genocide they do it because they personally materially benefit from that genocide. They get land, homes, oil, coastlines, military power, historic artifacts, crops, a displaced and readily exploitable workforce, stronger political representation, and enlivening propaganda for the comfortable way of life that all this violence has made possible. nations commit genocide because it is good for them. people support genocide because it makes their life better and more comfortable.
past generational suffering does not ennoble people. and most people do not do things based on some abstract idea of what is good or right, or even out of empathy for what others might be going through. people do things that they benefit from. and if you are a member of a settler colonial state you benefit from settler colonialism. 99% of people within that category will happily be a party to it.

These are large African Catfish. Reason there is large plastic sheet over them? Because they learnt to bump the tank and knock food into the water. Now, if they hear/smell food, they will pop their heads up like so.
literally a kind of dogys
i think “it takes a village” shouldn’t be just “to raise a child”. we should understand it takes a village to do literally everything we do. all day every day. without our communities we would not have drinking water or electricity or clean streets or food or shelter or anything. we cannot do any thing alone. we just can’t. and with that comes the fact that you are not alone. you already have a community, seek to be an active part of it, you will feel better. reach out and thank them, they’re happy to have you too. i promise. it takes a village to live.
